History of Pay Per Click

We first started managing PPC campaigns in 1999 with GoTo.com, the search engine that launched the concept of Paid Search marketing. This little company (a product of Bill Gross’ “IdeaLab”) later changed its name to Overture and was subsequently acquired by Yahoo! to form what is now Yahoo! Search Marketing. Once Google saw the popularity of Overture, they launched AdWords. Even though Google has 70+ percent of the search market today, they were actually latecomers to the Paid Search game.
